Horizen was founded with the sole purpose of advancing the profession of Route Setting. Our goal is to raise the ceiling of what is expected of a professional Route Setter and Route Setting Team.

Founded by Joe Stangel, Horizen Setting is a response to the reality that there is no clear career path when it comes to Route Setting and limited avenues for advancement.

​

Horizen's Curriculum draws from over 15 years of commercial Route Setting experience. This industry knowledge is combined with a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati and, most recently, a Master in Strategic Design from the Polytechnic University of Milan.

 

In the historical capital of European Design, I represented Route Setting as an emerging design discipline alongside Architects, Industrial Designers, UX Designers, and more. Not only contributing to, but also leading teams to design products, services and business strategies that solved real world problems for researchers, non-profits, and businesses across the globe.​

 

Practicing design at the cutting edge of innovation showed me the potential of design-centric organizations to not only lead the industry forward, but to define the future of that industry.
